OmniPathology Demonstrates Scientific Excellence at Digestive Disease Week 2025

OmniPathology showcased its latest innovations in gastroenterology-related testing and services at Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2025, held May 3–6 at the San Diego Convention Center. The largest international conference for GI-related healthcare in the world, DDW drew more than 15,000 gastroenterologists, researchers, and industry specialists from around the globe.

The Omni team hosted an interactive booth at the event, connecting with a wide variety of attendees—including clinicians, research organizations, pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies, medical device developers, academic publishers, and patient advocacy groups.

“DDW was an unparalleled opportunity to engage with leaders across the field of gastroenterology,” said Ronald Blum, Ph.D., Vice President of Science & Technology at OmniPathology. “We shared ideas and established collaborations to develop innovative solutions to some of the most challenging clinical problems facing patients with GI-related cancers and conditions. It was inspiring to be part of a community so deeply invested in both scientific discovery and compassionate care.”

Some other highlights from DDW 2025 included:

Cutting-edge HPV Swab Test
OmniPathology spotlighted its groundbreaking, patent-pending swab test for oropharyngeal human papillomavirus (HPV)—a leading cause of throat cancer. This non-invasive test is designed to detect and monitor persistent oropharyngeal HPV infections, giving clinicians a powerful tool to identify at-risk patients. By enabling enhanced surveillance and timely detection, the test has the potential to significantly improve clinical outcomes and advance the fight against HPV-driven oropharyngeal cancer.

Real-World Insights from Clinicians
Omni team members surveyed gastroenterologists about their experiences with oropharyngeal HPV and their interest in using OmniPathology’s swab test in their pre-endoscopy evaluations to better identify those patients infected with persistent oropharyngeal HPV.

Nearly three-fourths of those surveyed indicated they would consider ordering the oropharyngeal HPV swab test prior to endoscopy. They felt the potential benefits of the test included earlier detection and intervention, as well as improved risk stratification for throat cancer.

The Powerful OmniStandard Database
The team highlighted the OmniStandard—the lab’s proprietary, clinically-oriented database of diagnostic protocols, which provides the highest levels of quality, reproducibility, and confidence in pathology results.

“Our OmniStandard database has been built over many years, using over a million biopsies, endoscopy reports, and pathology records,” said Michelle Herrera, Vice President of OmniPathology. “It enables us to deliver reliable, high-quality results every time.”

Personalized Client Support
Throughout DDW, the team emphasized OmniPathology’s deep commitment to service. “We make it a point to be easily accessible to our clients,” said Herrera. “You won’t get a robot when you call! We have real people ready to support our clients with care and efficiency.”

Led by Science. Driven by Service.
DDW 2025 left a lasting impression on the Omni team, reinforcing their dedication to cutting-edge innovation and collaboration with other dedicated professionals.

“It was a privilege to connect with so many forward-thinking clinicians, researchers, and industry partners,” said Dr. Mohammad Kamal, Medical Director and CEO of OmniPathology.

“DDW provided a powerful platform to demonstrate how OmniPathology supports diagnostic development across the entire GI tract—from the throat to the anal canal. Everything we do is guided by our mission: Led by Science. Driven by Service.
